“He (or she) doesn’t hit me.” Have you said this before? Or maybe you’ve heard this from someone else? Far too often, people say that they aren’t experiencing abuse because they haven’t been physically hit. Listen to this:
“He/she just cusses me out, calls me bad names, breaks my things, throws stuff at me, threatens to hurt people I love, threatens to kill himself/herself if I leave, hurts and/or threatens to hurt my pet, obsessively calls and texts me when I’m not with them and follows me and/or put an app on my phone to know where I am at all times…. But he/she doesn’t hit me. So I’m not being abused.”
Abuse comes in many forms. Don’t dismiss abusive behavior just because there are no physical bruises. If you are experiencing any of this from someone, please reach out to those who can help support you. You don’t have to live like this. There is help and there is hope.
